Recipe #1 — Steak with Garlic and Miso Butter
You’ll need
- Grass-fed beef
- Salt and pepper
- Miso paste
- Butter
- Garlic
- A flame or hot plate, and a skillet
Method
- Let the meat come to room temperature, then season it with lots of salt and pepper.
- Throw a small amount of oil on the skillet, turn it up to 11 (hot!) and stick your steak on.
- Flip it every minute for up to 12 minutes — work on 1 minute per 1 mm of steak for medium-well. If you like your steak still moo-ing, cook it for way less time but use the same technique.
- Towards the end of cooking, add the miso and garlic butter you made earlier.
- Once the 6 minutes per side is complete, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest. Keep flipping it every minute for half the total cooking time.
- Serve it up with some veggies and get stuck into your epic tasty steak.

Recipe #2 — Vegan Not-Sausages
Because these don’t always taste amazing by themselves, it’s all about the seasoning and sauce. Luckily most sauces are also vegan, so you can continue your meat-free journey (just like Arnold Schwarzenegger). If you’re feeling adventurous, give the burger patties a go too — you might like the feeling of ‘eating clean’.
Method
Keen to get into some vegan food but still like meat? These could be the answer. Get yourself some fake-meat snags from the shops. They cook best in a covered BBQ, where they’ll cook nicely but not dry out. Work on 10–15 minutes on medium to low heat (low and slow!). A little film of oil helps keep the skins intact.
