Why does Vinyl Sounds Different?

Unlike digital audio, vinyl is a completely analogue format. The stylus physically traces a continuous groove in the record, recreating the original audio signal in real time. When properly mastered and played on quality equipment, vinyl is capable of remarkable fidelity.

Every playback is a tiny mechanical performance happening in real time.

How Was It Made?

A special vinyl master was created that takes into account the physical limitations of a stylus tracking a groove. The finished music was then sent to a precision cutting lathe. A tiny sapphire cutting head engraved one continuous spiral groove into a lacquer-coated aluminium disc. The audio signal is translated into microscopic movements within that groove. The groove is so fine that around 500 metres of groove can fit onto one side of an LP. The lacquer is then coated and electroplated with nickel to create a metal stamper, which uses around 100 tonnes of pressure to press the vinyl out of a small PVC biscuit.

Looking After Your Record

Records can last for decades and still sound incredible. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy your record for years to come.

When handling your record, hold it by the edges.
Keep it in the inner sleeve when not playing
Store it vertically, not stacked flat.

What Is a Slip Mat?

If you purchased the Complete Set, your order also includes a special edition slip mat. It has a number of special uses:

It protects the record by putting a soft buffer between the vinyl and your record platter.
It can help reduce vibration from your turntable, which may improve sound quality.
If you're a DJ, it allows the platter to keep spinning while you hold or scratch the record.
